Copper IUD Update

Copper IUD Update

Hello!  Ok, I'm two periods in now, and I feel like I can really give you an accurate update of how I'm liking the IUD.  If I'm being 100% honest, the first period after getting it implanted was absolute HELL.  My period was extremely heavy for 3-4 days, and by heavy I mean 9 super tampons in one day, and sleeping with a pad and tampon at night.  I will say that it had been such a long time since I'd had a "normal" period, I kind of forgot what they were like.  So its hard to say if it was really that heavy or not.  In addition the fatigue was intense, lots of bloating, moody, I just felt terrible.  I did have a cold during that time, so I'm sure that didn't help.  After getting through that first period, I really wasn't sure if I could handle it again.  I decided to give it one more chance, just because there were other factors that could have contributed to me feeling poorly.

Period # 2

When my period came again last month I was prepared for the worst.  I literally bought three boxes of tampons and pads..  I'm happy to report that it wasn't nearly as bad as the first one, in fact it barely bothered me.  It was MUCH lighter and I really didn't experience any other symptoms besides the flow.  Hopefully the next one follows suit.

Checking in

Its mandatory to have it checked after a few periods, so I went yesterday and had my doctor check me out.  Everything was where it should be, and she said all of the symptoms that I experienced with the first period were completely normal.  It was definitely a relief to know that its still in place and working like it should.  So far I'm happy with my decision to have the IUD implanted.  I was kind of hoping that stopping birth control might help my skin, but its actually worse.  But I'm working on it!  If you have any questions, please drop them below or email me!

One year later

I've now had the Copper IUD for one year.  I'm happy to say that I'm still loving it and I am definitely happy with my choice to have it implanted.  My periods have evened out a bit and are no longer so heavy.  I will say that each month it seems to come a few days early, and I'm not sure if that's just my body re-aligning itself or because of age.  I honestly forget that I even have it at times.  It doesn't cause me any discomfort or bother.  If you have any questions I am more than happy to answer.
